ESNBU is included in the National Reference List of contemporary Bulgarian scientific publications with scientific review of the Bulgarian National Centre for Information and Documentation (NACID).

18.12.2018 - ORCiD ID becomes mandatory for corresponding authors.

29.12.2018 - ESNBU adopts an Open Data policy and encourages authors to provide their data as 'open' datasets.

Awarded 9.0 by MIAR (Evaluation Matrix for Analisis of Journals by the Center for Research in Information, Communication and Culture of the University of Barcelona, up from 2.8 the previous year.

ESNBU adopted CASRAI's CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy), a high-level taxonomy including 14 roles that can be used to represent the roles typically played by contributors to scientific scholarly output. The roles describe each contributor's specific contribution to the scholarly output. Articles start featuring the Contributors' Roles in multiple-author submissions.

06.01.2020 - ESNBU moves to APA7 from APA6

The Polish Ministry of Education, PBN (the System of Polish Scientific Bibliography) included ESNBU in their list of approved journals, and awards 20 points to authors from Poland if they publish with ESNBU.

The Norwegian Register for Scientific Journals, Series and Publishers, operated jointly between The National Board of Scholarly Publishing (NPU) and Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Skills on behalf of The Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research, included ESNBU in their list of approved journals and places ESNBU at Level 1.

ESNBU starts embedding Crossmark both on the web site landing pages of the articles and on the PDF.

New Bulgarian University launches the NBU Academic Journals Portal - ESNBU is actively participating as consultants for the OJS PKP platform, advising other editorial boards on OA policies, develops a DOI allocation template, and is an avid promoter of OA and editorial integrity.


19.01.2021 - ESNBU is awarded the DOAJ Seal.
Only around 10% of the journals indexed in DOAJ have met the rigorous quality criteria and have been awarded the Seal.

ESNBU scored 0.12 points in the field of Language and Linguistics.
The Journal Citation Indicator (JCI) is the new, field-normalized measurement of journal citation impact introduced by Clarivate™ across all the databases in the Web of Science Core collection, incl. ESCI.

For a third year in a row the Polish Ministry of Education, PBN (System of Polish Scientific Bibliography) awards ESNBU 20 points.


February, 2022 - ESNBU starts publishing an interactive Google map with the authors' affiliations updated with every issue.

Clarivate awards ESNBU 0.18 JCI score for 2021, up from 0.12 in 2020.


Position Statement issued re: AI-assisted manuscripts and AI-generated text in manuscripts. ESNBU adopts COPE's Position Statement verbatim.

From Volume 9, Issue 1, ESNBU starts implementing and displaying ROR (The Research Organization Registry) persistent identifiers (PIDs) to provide even better metadata!

Clarivate awards ESNBU 0.19 JCI score for 2022, up from 0.18 in 2021. Q3 Category Quartile in Language & Linguistics in ESCI edition.
